Highlights: Poland win 7-0 against Gibraltar whose starting XI had only two professional footballers

Robert Lewandowski scored four goals in the 0-7 rout.

Gibraltar lost 0-7 to Poland at the Estádio Algarve on Sunday night in the Euro 2016 Group D qualifier.

This was Gibraltar’s first competitive game at the senior level as a UEFA member and they were never fancied to win with Robert Lewandowski running riot, scoring four goals.

Kamil Grosicki scored two goals and Lukasz Szukala also managed to score one.

Gibraltar is UEFA’s newest member

The country, situated at the southern tip of Spain, only got accepted by UEFA in May last year. 

The fought a 14-year battle to get included and this is their first chance to play with the big boys in Europe.

But the have a very tough draw and will need nothing less than a miracle to reach EURO 2016. They were drawn in Group D with Germany, Poland, Scotland, Republic of Ireland and Georgia. 

Gibraltar’s team has mainly amateur players

Only two players in the starting XI are actually professional footballers – midfielder Liam Walker and defender Scott Wiseman.

The rest of the XI consist of players who play football part-time and actually have normal jobs.

For example, their forward Kyle Casciaro works as a shipping agent while their goalkeeper Jordan Perez is also a fireman and Ryan Casciaro is a policeman.
