Highlights: Sergio Aguero's header helps Argentina defeat Uruguay 1-0

Aguero’s header did the trick for Argentina

Argentina overcame their indifferent start to the Copa America and secured their first win, thanks to a headed goal from Sergio Aguero in the second half. The goal came as the result of good work from Javier Pastore and Pablo Zabaleta and helped them win 1-0.

The Albicelestes, who threw away a two-goal lead against Paraguay in their previous game, fought well, and secured the goal necessary to get the victory. The win sees them at the top of Group B, level with Paraguay on both points and goal difference.

Tata Martino’s men were up for the fight against the Uruguayans and went toe-to-toe with the scrappy defending champions, still playing without the suspended Luis Suarez. La Seleccion went close in the first half when Muslera saved a header from Aguero.

They then took the lead as Zabaleta’s cross following some quick feet from Pastore saw a bullet header from the Manchester City frontman Aguero, which gave them the decisive goal. Messi almost doubled the lead late on, but his shot was saved by Muslera.

Sergio Romero had to come to the rescue, as his save from Abel Hernandez’s 90th-minute shot helped preserve all 3 points for Argentina. Diego Godin had the last chance of the game, but his header went high.

Both Argentina and Paraguay are now top of Group B, with 4 points, while Uruguay sit a place behind with 3 points.
