Highlights: Southampton hold Chelsea to a 1-1 draw at the St. Mary's Stadium

Jose Mourinho (L) and Ronald Koeman saw their sides compete in a scored draw

Chelsea travelled to Southampton in the hope of increasing their lead at the top of the table to six points courtesy of an early kick-off as compared to Manchester City’s 8.30 pm start.

Southampton, who had just recovered from a losing streak with wins over Everton and Crystal Palace, were made to work hard in order to stop Chelsea extending their winning run to four matches.

The home side took matters into their own hands and led through a Sadio Mane goal in the 17th minute. The Saints looked like the dominant side in the first half.

However, at the end of the half, Eden Hazard went on a mazy solo run to bring Chelsea level in first-half stoppage time.

The second half did not bring any goals and the leaders were held at the Saint Mary’s Stadium.

Highlights:

Southampton 1-0 Chelsea: Sadio Mane(17’)

On the 17th minute, Sadio Mane scored to give Southampton the lead against the league leaders. He lobbed it over the on-rushing Thibaut Courtois’ head after Dusan Tadic’s pass found him through on goal.

Southampton 1-1 Chelsea: Eden Hazard (46’)

Eden Hazard levelled for the leaders after a brilliant solo goal in the stoppage time of the first half. Cesc Fabregas chipped the ball beyond the Saints’ defence and Hazard found himself in acres of space on the left hand-side of the box. The Belgian beat two defenders and calmly placed the ball into the side net from near the penalty spot.
