Highlights: Spain thrash Luxembourg 4-0 in Euro 2016 qualifier

Spain’s David Silva (R) celebrates his goal with Andres Iniesta (L) and Diego Costa (C) during the Euro 2016 qualifier match against Luxembourg.

Defending European champions Spain comfortably beat Luxembourg 4-0 at the Stade Josy Barthel in Luxembourg in their Euro 2016 qualifier.

After Slovakia caused an upset last week, Spain bounced back and put in a commanding performance against the minnows with 69% possession throughout the match.

La Roja did waste a number of chances but eventually got on the scoresheet thanks to David Silva. Paco Alcacer then added a second goal, his third in four matches for Spain. In the second half, Diego Costa then scored his first goal for Spain. There was also a debut goal for Juan Bernat towards the end of the game.

Under pressure-Iker Casillas was benched for this game by coach Vicente del Bosque with David De Gea between the sticks.

Luxembourg 0-1 Spain: Silva (26’)

Luxembourg 0-2 Spain: Alcacer (42’)

Alcacer scored with a lovely first time finish from inside the box and into the bottom left corner after Silva slipped the ball to him from the right.

Diego Costa’s first goal for Spain was a powerful shot from just outside the six-yard box after a scramble inside the box.

Luxembourg 0-4 Spain: Bernat (88’)

Rodrigo (also making his Spain debut) then fed Juan Bernat, who had made a run into the box, with a nice reverse pass.
