How Manchester United can accommodate Toni Kroos
Manchester United were linked with several midfielders before signing Juan Mata in January. However the Spainard cannot transform the team alone so another central midfielder will have to be signed. One possible target is Bayern Munich midfielder Toni Kroos. United boss David Moyes made a trip to Germany last month to personally scout Kroos and presumably liked what he saw. The Red Devils did not sign Kroos in January but are expected to return in the summer as Bayern may consider selling them after the season is over. Kroos is an extremely versatile player and can fit into Manchester United’s setup very well if he decides to join the Old Trafford outfit.
The midfielder has 1 goal and 3 assists in 18 games this season along with having 40 shots on target which is extremely impressive. Kroos can be the spark Manchester United have been missing in the midfield department for years. Perhaps Kroos can have the same effect on Manchester United as Ozil has had for Arsenal this season. The 24-year-old will most likely accept the chance to join Manchester United if he is approached as he recently admitted that he is keeping his options open before committing himself to the German champions.
Now the main question is how will Kroos fit in with United’s set up if he is recruited? A 4-2-3-1 formation as demonstrated above would be the best as both Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie can be used in the line-up effectively. Kroos can easily play as a holding midfielder alongside Fellani or Carrick as he was used to playing in that position under former Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes. The player was effective in this position last season as he won 59.6% of his tackles which greatly helped the team. Manchester United will also be more strong on the defensive front if Kroos was used in this position. Kroos was extremely prolific as a holding midfielder scoring 11 goals and assisting 8 last season.
The Germany international has been described as a complete midfielder by national coach Joachim Loew and is capable of dictating play in the midfield. Michael Carrick is the only Manchester United player to achieve such a feat so far with the club which is extremely worrying. United have looked lost without Carrick during his absence this season which has somewhat crippled their performance. Kroos will immediately take care of that problem as he is not only younger and faster than Carrick but also more prolific in front of goal. The midfielder has also scored some amazing goals from outside the box for Munich which is another plus point.
If Manchester United have Kroos in their ranks then they can be a world class team once again. Very few midfielders are as versatile as Kroos so they should act quickly in the summer as his value will go up after the World Cup. Should David Moyes bring Kroos to Manchester United then it would be an extremely smart move on his part.
