How Manchester United could line up next season
Manchester United have struggled in the Premier League during the 2023-24 season. The Red Devils finished eighth in the league last term, a massive 31 points behind champions Manchester City.
United will look to bounce back next season and are very active in the transfer market. Erik ten Hag has already signed Leny Yoro and Joshua Zirkee to bolster his squad this summer. Several other names are also expected to arrive at Old Trafford before the end of the transfer window.
Based on the players Manchester United have signed and are expected to sign this window, here's how they could possibly line up during the 2024-25 season.
How Manchester United could line up next season
Goalkeeper - Andre Onana
Andre Onana has enjoyed a mixed debut season at Old Trafford. He played 38 Premier League games last season, keeping nine clean sheets. The Senegal international will look to find some consistency in his performances next season.
Right-back - Diogo Dalot
Diogo Dalot enjoyed a terrific 2023-24 season at Old Trafford. The Portugal international played 36 Premier League games last term, registering two goals and three assists. He was named Manchester United's Players' Player of the Season 2023-24 for his performances.
Centre-back - Leny Yoro
Leny Yoro was linked with a transfer to almost every big club in Europe this transfer window. However, the Red Devils were quick in their approach and secured his services from Lille last week. Yoro is among the best young defenders in the world and will play a key role for United next season.
Centre-back - Matthijs de Ligt
Matthijs de Ligt is another defender who has been linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks. Bayern president Uli Hoeneß has recently revealed that the Red Devils are currently in talks to sign the defender. He is expected to partner Yoro in the heart of the United defence next season.
Left-back - Luke Shaw
Luke Shaw was unlucky with injuries last season, managing to make just 12 appearances in the league. However, he has now regained full fitness and featured regularly for England during the recently concluded UEFA Euro 2024.
Shaw is likely to be a regular starter at left-back for the Red Devils next season.
Central Midfielder - Manuel Ugarte
Manchester United were linked heavily with signing Manuel Ugarte throughout this summer transfer window. As per Fabrizio Romano, the Argentina international has already agreed on personal terms with the Manchester-based outfit. The Red Devils are currently negotiating with PSG over his summer move.
Central Midfielder - Kobbie Mainoo
Kobbie Mainoo was a revelation for Manchester United last season. The 19-year-old midfielder played 24 Premier League games in the 2023-24 campaign, scoring three goals and assisting one more. He was named Manchester United Young Player of the Season in 2023 and was also nominated for the Premier League Young Player of the Season 2023-24.
The 19-year-old starlet will look to build on his progress during the upcoming campaign.
Central attacking midfielder - Bruno Fernandes
Bruno Fernandes enjoyed yet another stellar season at Old Trafford last term. The Portugal international played 35 league games in 2023-24, registering 10 goals and eight assists. Erik ten Hag will hope his captain to continue his form when the EPL resumes next month.
Right-winger - Alejandro Garnacho
Alejandro Garnacho established himself among the regular members of the United squad last season. The Argentina international played 36 league games last term, registering seven goals and six assists.
Garnacho will be pivotal for the 20-time English champions next season.
Left-Winger - Marcus Rashford
Marcus Rashford received a lot of stick for his performances for the Red Devils last season. However, he's a super-talented footballer and is among the best attackers in the league when in form. The England international is likely to retain his position in the Manchester-based outfit's starting XI next season.
Striker - Joshua Zirkzee
United spent £35 million to sign Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna earlier this transfer window. The Dutch international played 34 league games for the Serie A outfit last season, scoring 11 goals and four assists. He was named Serie A Young Player of the Season 2023-24.
Zirkzee will compete with Rasmus Hojlund for spearheading the Red Devils attack during the upcoming campaign.
