A.C. Milan news: How the potential transfer of Serie A star striker could cause a huge need of sharpshooters this January
According to the reputed media outlet, Mirror, Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain has been strongly linked with a move to Stamford Bridge. We are almost halfway through the winter transfer window and this possible transfer is bound to send rippling effects to other potential transfers.
Moreover, AC Milan head coach Gennaro Gattuso has hinted that Higuain wants to leave the club. The potential deal may see out-of-favor Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata leave the club seeking more game time to other European heavyweights who are looking for a sharpshooter.
In case you didn't know..
Higuain joined the Rossoneri on a season-long loan from Juventus during the summer transfer window with an option to make the deal permanent. He has, however, found it difficult to settle at Milan, scoring eight goals in all competitions.
He had his most successful season under current Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, breaking the Serie A goalscoring record with 36 goals in the 2015/16 campaign. Chances are Higuain and Sarri might want to reunite, this time in England.
On the other hand, Chelsea is looking desperately for a striker after the dismal form of the two sharpshooters in the team - Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud.
The heart of the matter
Gennaro Gattuso, speaking in relation to Higuain and the transfer possibility, said:
"When a player makes up his mind it becomes hard to convince them otherwise. I have a relationship with him that features great honesty - we say things to one another's face. At the moment, he's our player and we're holding on tightly to him. I don't know what will happen. I still don't understand what Higuain's unhappy about because I see a happy lad, involved in the locker room."
While this is a clear hint about Higuain wanting to move away from the club, this can open up a lot of options for Alvaro Morata. According to Sky Sports, Atletico Madrid have joined the race to secure Morata's services after rumours initially linked him with both Barcelona and Sevilla.
The potential transfer of Gonzalo Higuain will leave Milan without a striker and would make them more desperate to hold on to their star striker and think about a possible replacement as Chelsea close in on their Argentine target.
Moreover, top clubs like Real Madrid and Barcelona are looking for a goalscorer who can increase their attacking depth. While Los Blancos reinforce their forward line to increase their goal scoring, Barcelona are looking for a replacement for Luis Suarez after losing Munir El Haddadi.
There is a clear lack of world-class goalscorers across Europe and the possible move for Gonzalo Higuain can cause the ardent European giants to act quickly in their search for a sharpshooter before the January window closes.
What's next?
Gonzalo Higuain reuniting with his former boss at Chelsea is a possibility and a move which would do Chelsea more good than harm. It would increase their squad depth and provide adequate reinforcements to solve their goalkeeping problem.
It is becoming crystal clear that Gonzalo Higuain's departure from Milan would pave the way for more transfer deals in the current January transfer window. It still remains to be seen how the negotiations take place as we are already halfway through the winter transfer window.
