As per the new table, East Bengal get closer to league leaders Churchill Brothers, who have two games in hand, while champions Dempo overtake Pune to move up to third.
The big movers are Shillong Lajong though, as they jump up to eighth from 11th spot because of their 2-0 victory over Mohun Bagan in the opening weekend.
It is still not clear whether there will be any relegation this season, but if there is any, Mohun Bagan face a tough challenge, as they are 11 points off safety and could have skipper Odafa Okolie suspended for a long period.
In the title race, East Bengal profit because of an improvement in their goal difference, but their fans might argue that they could have beaten their arch-rivals by a bigger margin, had the green-and-maroon brigade decided to take the field in the second half.
Table toppers Churchill Brothers will not be happy because of the fixture congestion that awaits them, as they will have to play the two games in hand, including one against Mohun Bagan. Also, with the AFC Cup also to look forward to, their squad could get stretched.
