I-League 2017/18: Indian Arrows vs Mohun Bagan, Player Ratings
Mohun Bagan avenged their 0-1 home defeat against Indian Arrows by beating the latter 2-0 at the Tilak Maidan Stadium in Goa on Tuesday.
Dipanda Dicka and Akram Moghrabi scored the all-important goals which took the Mariners' points tally to 27 points from 16 games. Mathematically Mohun Bagan can still win the league if other results in the tournament go their way.
Let's take a look at how the players fared during the game:
Indian Arrows
Prabhsukhan Gill (7/10): The goalkeeper could have been more alert when Watson had played a looping ball in the box in the first half. He was late to come off his line and then failed to clear the ball, taking advantage of which, Dicka scored a wonderful goal. However, he redeemed himself in the second half when he did well to save Dicka’s header from close range.
Ashis Rai (4/10): The right back didn’t have a great game as he did precious little to stop attacking runs down his flank by the Bagan players. He picked up an injury in the 80th minute and was substituted by Namgyal Bhutia.
Jitendra Singh (4/10): He was guilty of not marking Moghrabi as the striker found space between Anwar Ali and him to score Bagan’s second goal.
Anwar Ali (5/10): The lanky defender was at fault during Bagan’s first goal as he failed to clear Watson’s cross in the box. Later on, he had a chance to fire a shot on the Bagan goal but the left-footed effort went wide.
Sanjeev Stalin (5/10): The left back had a quiet game as he held his own at the back but failed to make an impact in dead ball situations.
Deepak Tangri (4/10): Tangri was deployed in the midfield to stop Watson and Kinowaki from building up the play. However, he wasn’t able to disburse his duties properly as Bagan midfielders found him out.
Amarjit Singh (7/10): Amarjit was a lively presence on the field throughout the game. His most notable contribution came in the first half when his left-footed shot was saved by Mohun Bagan custodian Shilton Paul.
Rahul Kannoly (5/10): Kannoly had a great chance to reduce the scoreline in the second half when he received a ball from Tangri right on the edge of the box but couldn’t keep his shot on target. He was clear of his marker and should have done better on that occasion.
Lalengmawia (6/10): The midfielder tried to essay some passes for Rahim Ali and Amarjit Singh but most of those were cut out by the Bagan footballers.
Nongdamba Naorem (6/10): Naorem tried to do too much with the ball and eventually ended up conceding possession every single time. He was substituted by Edmund Lalrindika in the 71st minute.
Rahim Ali (6/10): Ali was the lone man upfront for the home side but he was overpowered in the box on most occasions. In the second half, he tried to dribble past a couple of footballers to take a shot on goal but the effort was cleared out by the Bagan defence.
Substitutes:
Edmund Lalrindika (6/10): The forward replaced Naorem in the 71st minute as Luis Norton de Matos wanted his team to press harder for a goal which would have breathed life into the game. He tried to make inroads in the box but was found out by the Mohun Bagan defenders.
Namgyal Bhutia (7/10): He only got 10 minutes to showcase his skills but was impressive during that duration. He made some darting runs upfront and tried to link up with the forwards.
