I-League giants Mohun Bagan is all set to part ways with talismanic forward Sony Norde, who will not feature in the derby on Sunday. A source close to Sportskeeda confirmed that the Kolkata-based club has reached a mutual agreement with the Haitian on Friday.

Although he will not play on Sunday, Norde is set to leave the club after the derby. He will travel to Argentina for treatment. The Bagan captain sustained an injury on his right knee in the match against Churchill Brothers and had to be stretchered off the field.

After that, he has featured in only one match against NEROCA on 19th December, 2017. Norde had consulted Mumbai-based orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Anant Joshi who had suggested that surgery was not needed and that the forward could be back to prime fitness through rehabilitation.

However, things did not turn out as Norde would have hoped. It now looks like he will have to get his right meniscus reconstructed through surgery which means that he will be out of action for at least six to eight weeks.

Norde joined Bagan from Bangladeshi club Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi before the start of the 2014/15 season. He scored nine league goals and also notched up 13 assists in his first season as he helped his team claim the I-League trophy for the first time in 13 years. In all, he has scored 18 goals in 45 league matches for the club.

Previously, it had been reported that the Green and Maroons were in advanced talks with ATK’s former Ethiopian striker Fikru Teferra. Norde's imminent departure will now hasten the process.
