I-League awaits a final weekend of matches

The final weekend of the 2012/13 I-League season is upon us with all 14 teams in action across India on Saturday and Sunday for one last time. The tension and excitement regarding the title race and/or the relegation battle is over, but still most clubs would like to finish the season on a high before they head for a well-deserved break.

Churchill Brothers SC have sealed their second I-League title, while Air India and United Sikkim FC will be relegated to the 2nd Division as they will finish bottom of the table with ONGC and Air India also losing their spot in the I-League due to non-fulfilment of the AFC Professional Club Licencing criteria. Interestingly this means that only ONGC will be replaced by a new I-League Franchisee club and three clubs would be included to expand the league next year to 16 clubs.

The only interesting question left is who will finish second behind Churchill Brothers. Pune FC have 49 points and will face Pailan Arrows, while the other contenders East Bengal Club are on 47 points and they host Shillong Lajong FC.
