I want to pick Moyes's brains: Roberto Martinez
When, after eleven years, David Moyes packed up and left Goodison Park to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, he made sure that he would help Bill Kenwright find his successor and mold him into the leader that he himself was during his time on Merseyside.
Though it is slightly too soon to celebrate Moyes’s choice, Roberto Martinez is nonetheless already on his good books.
The Spanish manager has already admitted that one of first jobs will be to call Moyes for advice. It means that the new guy is willing to keep his ego aside and ask for help, if need be.
Martinez has a four year deal with the club and has admitted that it was not an opportunity to let go.
“I have real respect for David, what he achieved here is something I admire,” he said.
“I wouldn’t want to be so cheeky as to do it without him offering but I will definitely be doing so now he has. I will be picking his brain on everything.”
Martinez stunned the football world by leading Wigan to an incredible FA Cup final triumph over Manchester City, having beaten Everton 3-0 at Goodison on the way.
Despite that triumph, Wigan suffered the agony of relegation days later, but fortunately, it didn’t affect Martinez’s career.
When asked about his new role, he replied enthusiastically: “Everton is a phenomenal and passionate club – and I can’t wait to get started.”
