Iceland vs Wales Prediction and Betting Tips | October 11th 2024

Iceland and Wales return to action in Group 4 of League B in the UEFA Nations League when they square off at the Laugardalsvöllur on Friday. Craig Bellamy’s Wales head into the weekend on a four-game winning streak against the hosts and will look to extend this dominant run.

Iceland were sent crashing back down to earth in the UEFA Nations League last time out, as they suffered a 3-1 defeat against Turkey at the Gürsel Aksel Stadium on September 9.

Before that, Age Hareide’s side kicked off the new campaign with a 2-0 victory over Montenegro courtesy of goals in either half from Orri Steinn Óskarsson and Jón Dagur Thórsteinsson.

Iceland now face the daunting challenge of taking on an opposing side who have won the last four meetings against them, scoring seven goals and conceding twice since a 1-0 loss in September 1984.

Wales, on the other hand, got up and running in the new Nations League campaign last time out, when they held on to see out a 2-1 victory over Montenegro.

Before that, Bellamy’s men were on a four-game winless run, including friendlies, losing twice and claiming two draws. Wales were also held to a goalless stalemate against Turkey in the Group H opener on September 6 during this run.

With four points from the first six available, Wales are currently second in the group standings, level on points with first-placed Turkey and one point above Friday’s hosts in third place.

Iceland vs Wales Head-To-Head and Key Numbers

  • With five wins from the last seven meetings between the sides, Wales boasts a superior record in the history of this fixture.
  • Iceland have managed just one win in that time, which came in September 1984, when they beat Wales 1-0 in Reykjavík, while one game has ended all square.
  • Wales have managed just one win in their last eight Nations League games while losing five and claiming two draws since June 2022.
  • Iceland are unbeaten in their last four competitive home matches, claiming three wins and one draw since a 1-0 defeat against Portugal in the European Championship qualifiers in June 2023.

Iceland vs Wales Prediction

Wales have endured a wretched run of results in the Nations League but will be looking to secure consecutive wins for the first time since October 2023 this weekend. While Iceland have been rock solid on home soil, we predict Bellamy’s men will do just enough to snatch a narrow victory.

Prediction: Iceland 1-2 Wales
