Indian Football Transfers: I-League club Mohun Bagan sign former Barcelona striker Salva Chamorro
I-League side Mohun Bagan side have signed Spanish striker Salvador Perez Martinez, fondly known as Salva Chamorro, from Greek second division club Doxa Drama FC for the 2019/20 season. The 29-year-old played for Barcelona B in Spain's third division in 2016 and scored one goal in 16 appearances.
Mohun Bagan made the announcement in a very creative way. Giving a puzzle for their fans to solve in social media channels, they redirected them to their Youtube page to show a clip of Salva dribbling past defenders and scoring a goal from just inside the box in a FIFA EA Sports game.
After unveiling to their fans that the deal has been completed, Mohun Bagan's Youtube channel played clips of various goals scored by Salva.
Salva becomes the second foreign signing under Mohun Bagan's new head coach Kibu Vicuna, the previous one being defender Fran Morante. The Spaniard came through the youth setup of Villareal before playing for their C and B teams.
Salva went on to play for various Spanish third division clubs and Portuguese club Tondela in the Primeira Liga. He had a brief stint with Hong Kong Pegasus in the Hong Kong Premier League in the 2016/17 season but a torn knee ligament restricted him to only four appearances, where he scored three goals.
Salva returned back to Spain's third division to play for Real Murcia for the 2017-18 season and even made four appearances in the Copa del Rey. Murcia reached the Round of 32 but were eventually knocked out by Barcelona 8-0 on aggregate.
Salva was, thereafter, transferred to UD Logrones for the remainder of the season before being bought by Greece's Doxa Drama. He scored four goals in 19 matches for them as his side finished eighth on the points table.
Mohun Bagan finished sixth on the I-League last season and would be raring to forget it. They have released all their foreign players and bought Dhanachandra Singh and Ashutosh Mehta from ISL sides Jamshedpur FC and FC Pune City respectively to bolster their squad.
