Indian Super Cup 2018: Jamshedpur FC vs FC Goa, Player Ratings
Quarterfinals action continued in the Indian Super Cup as Jamshedpur FC took on FC Goa at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa.
This was the only quarterfinal in which two Indian Super League sides clashed in the Super Cup. Jamshedpur FC had sealed their place in the final eight when they emerged triumphant over I-League champions Minerva Punjab FC in the penalty shootout after 120 minutes. FC Goa, on the other hand, had beaten fellow ISL franchise ATK with a comfortable 3-1 margin to set up the tie with Jamshedpur FC.
Brandon Fernandes put FC Goa in the lead in the 33rd minute when he finished off a great move. There was an altercation in the tunnel at the end of the first half after confusion over a disallowed goal for Fernandes. As a result, six players - Brandon Fernandes, Sergio Juste, Bruno Pinherio, Subrata Paul, Anas Edathodika and Kervens Belfort were sent off by the referee.
FC Goa added four goals in the second half and Jamshedpur FC managed one consolation as the match ended 5-1 in favor of the Goan side. They will take on East Bengal in their semi-final encounter.
Jamshedpur FC
Subrata Paul (4.5/10) - The veteran Indian keeper was called into action early in the half and produced good saves to keep Mandar Rao Desai and Edu Bedia out. He was sent off for an altercation with the referee at the end of the first half.
Andrey Bikey (5/10) - The hulking defender marshalled the defence at the back as Jamshedpur dealt with the famed Goa attack. He was strong in his tackles and used his physicality well in the back.
Anas Edathodika (4/10) - The Indian international played in the centre of the defence and was strong in his tackles in and around the box. He made a lot of crucial tackles as Jamshedpur did well to keep Goa in check. He was one of the players sent off for the altercation.
Robin Gurung (5/10) - The right-back for the Jamshedpur FC side was kept busy on his flank by the dual threat of Narayan Das and Brandon Fernandes. He was restricted in his attacking exploits down the line as he resorted to defending for the most part of the match.
Yumnam Raju (5/10) - The left-back Raju had the tough task of marking Mandar Rao Desai on his flank. He did well to match up with the pacey winger.
Sairuat Kima (5/10) - The youngster made his maiden appearance for the Jamshedpur FC and played alongside Memo in the midfield. He was intense in his tackling as he almost injured Goa striker Corominas in the first half but had to be subbed off to make space for Mohammed Rafiq.
Wellington Priori (5.5/10) - The lanky Brazilian operated behind the attackers for the Jamshedpur side. He looked comfortable whenever he was on the ball and tried to find the strikers with his passes past the Goa defence.
Memo (5.5/10) - The defensive midfielder was a busy man as he was made to work hard by the Goa midfield. He moved all across the midfield putting in tackles and trying to break the flow of the FC Goa players. He conceded a penalty in the 68th minute of the match.
Jerry Mawhmingthanga (4.5/10) - The dynamic midfielder was kept quiet for the most part of the match and struggled to make an impact. He was subbed off for Ashim Biswas at the 70th minute.
Trindade Goncalves (4/10) - The Brazilian attacker looked lacklustre as he was not able to maintain control of the ball and his passes were easily tracked by the Goa defence. He was subbed off at the hour mark when Farukh Choudhary replaced him.
Kervens Belfort (4.5/10) - The Haitian international played ahead on the left side and often cut inside from the flank. He came close to scoring once when his header from a corner brushed the top of the post. Belfort was also sent off at the end of the first half for the altercation.
Substitutes:
Mohammed Rafiq (2/10) - The substitute keeper had to come on after Subrata Paul's sending off at the end of the first half of the match. He was beaten four times in the second half as Goa ran riot.
Farukh Choudhary (3/10) - The former Mumbai FC and Kerala Blasters man came on to replace Trindade Goncalves in the attack.
Ashim Biswas (5/10) - The winger came on in the second half and got a consolation goal for Jamshedpur FC in the added time.
