Indian Super Cup 2018: Mumbai City FC vs East Bengal, Player Ratings
The pre-quarterfinal matches of the Indian Super Cup continued into the week, as, ISL franchise Mumbai City FC, took on I-League veterans East Bengal, at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneshwar, Orissa.
The match began on a pretty even note, as Mumbai City FC broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute through a superb freekick by Achille Emana.
Katsumi Yusa got the 'Red and Golds' back into the game with a great headed goal. Mahmoud Al-Amna got the winner in the second half latching onto a rebound after a save by Amrinder Singh.
East Bengal will take on Aizawl FC in the quarterfinal of the Super Cup.
Mumbai City FC
Amrinder Singh (6/10) - The Indian International had a decent game between the sticks, being called into action a couple of times producing good saves. He was beaten twice in the match when Yusa and Al-Amna got past him in the match.
Aiborlang Khongjee (5/10) - The right-back made his return back to the starting lineup of the Mumbai City FC side tonight. He was up for a tough night as he marked the ever-dangerous Katsumi Yusa on his flank.
Lucian Goian (5.5/10) - The Romanian central defender was in his usual no-nonsense mode at the back, going into crunching tackles and, winning a lot of aerial balls in the box. He marked the dangerous Dudu and did a good job at keeping him in check.
Raju Gaikwad (5.5/10) - The Mumbai-born defender played as the center-back today in a change from his usual wide role. He did well alongside Goian, as they had the tough task of keeping the East Bengal attack at bay.
Davinder Singh (5/10) - The young wing-back played on the left flank tonight and was kept busy on both ends as he made runs up and down the flank. He marked the dangerous Ralte on his flank.
Zakeer Mundampara (5.5/10) - The defensive midfielder played alongside Sehnaj Singh, and did well after his early booking in the match. He put in a lot of tackles as he broke up a lot of East Bengal's plays.
Sehnaj Singh (5.5/10) - The tough-tackling midfielder put in a lot of tackles in the middle of the park and was constantly in danger of being sent off by the referee.
Sanju Pradhan (6/10) - Pradhan played on the right flank and, made a lot of runs on the wing cutting in and putting balls into the box for the attackers.
Sahil Tavora (6/10) - The Goan winger played on the left flank and, was good with his movement. He put in some good crosses into the box as well. He helped out the defence as well with his tracking back.
Achille Emana (7.5/10) - The midfielder who played just behind Balwant Singh in the attack scored a fantastic long-range freekick that swerved into the top right corner and went in after hitting the crossbar. He looked confident on the ball and used his physicality well on the pitch.
Balwant Singh (6/10) - The Indian International was the lone man up front for the Mumbai City FC side and did well with his movement across the box. He did not have any clear effort on the goal as the East Bengal defenders made it tough for him.
Substitutes:
Pranjal Bhumij (4/10) - The youngster came on to replace Khongjee after the hour mark as Alexandre Guimaraes introduced fresh legs into the lineup.
Abinash Ruidas (3.5/10) - The former East Bengal man came on for the final fifteen minutes of the game.
Biswajit Saha (2/10) - Saha came on to replace Tavora in the midfield as Mumbai pressed on for the equalizer with young blood on the pitch.
