What’s the story?

FC Pune City (FCPC) are in close talks with ATK for the signature of the striker, Robin Singh. With a new Indian Super League (ISL) season set to kick off in October, the club from Pune is seeking to strengthen their stallions.

Having played for top sides like the Delhi Dynamos, FC Goa etc., Singh will be a top signing for the Maharashtra franchise, which could diversify the attack for Ranko Popovic’s side.

In case you didn’t know…

Robin started his youth career playing for Chandigarh Football Academy and Tata Football Academy between the period of 2003 through 2009. His senior career kicked off with the Red and Gold Kolkata giants, East Bengal when he signed with the club in 2010.

The striker later went on to play for clubs like Bengaluru FC (2013-15), Delhi Dynamos (2015-16), FC Goa (2016-17), before the Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) picked him up in the ISL player draft last year as one of the most expensive Indian signings with a transfer fee of Rs. 65 lakh.

Heart of the matter

Sportskeeda has learned that FC Pune City are the frontrunners to acquire the services of the recently turned 28-year-old attacker. Having scored one goal in the six appearances he made for the Kolkata-based ISL franchise, Singh will be determined to bounce back into form for his new side.

Should he does find his goalscoring form back, FCPC will have one of the most lethal attacking lines that would include stars like Marcelinho, Alvaro and now, Robin Singh, if the deal comes through for the Puneris.

What’s next?

With Popovic’s tactics and gameplay philosophy, Singh could do wonders for FCPC if his form comes through. It will sure be interesting to watch him reunite with his former Dynamos colleague, Marcelinho and link up alongside Alvaro to regain his goal scoring capabilities.

Author’s take

The signing of Robin Singh would be of a huge plus point for FC Pune City. The attacker could turn out to be Popovic’s super sub who could help his team find the back of the net after coming off in the later stages of the fixtures.
