FC Barcelona v Valencia CF - La Liga

BARCELONA, SPAIN – SEPTEMBER 02: Andres Iniesta of FC Barcelona poses with the UEFA Best Player in Europe 2012 trophy prior to the La Liga match between FC Barcelona and Valencia CF at Camp Nou on September 2, 2012 in Barcelona, Spain.

Madrid, Sep 13 – Barcelona midfielder Andres Iniesta will miss his team’s Champions League opener against Spartak Moscow next Wednesday due to an injury which may keep him out of play for up to two weeks.

The player pulled a muscle in his right leg during Spain’s 1-0 win in Georgia in a 2014 World Cup qualifier Tuesday, the club said.

Iniesta, newly crowned UEFA’s Best Player in Europe, will also skip Saturday’s Spanish league game at Getafe.

Barcelona leads the La Liga after a perfect start through three rounds, enjoying a five-point advantage over defending champion Real Madrid.
