Injured Atletico de Kolkata striker Helder Postiga set to miss 3-4 weeks

Atletico de Kolkata (ATK) marquee striker Helder Postiga, who inspired the side to opening day, 3-2 victory over Chennaiyin FC in the ISL opener is set to miss upto three to four weeks. The 35-year old pulled his hamstring, after scoring the second goal of his brace on October 3.

Earlier reports and sources from within the ATK camp, stated that the injury was minor and Postiga was fit to play against Goa on October 7. However, in a big blow to Head Coach Antonio Habas’ plans, Postiga has been ruled out for close to 3-4 weeks. He will be moving to Portugal for treatment, before going to Atletico de Madrid for rehabilitation under the close eyes of their doctors.

Sports Director of ATK,  Alberto Marrero said, Our marquee player Hélder Postiga who unfortunately suffered a strain during the first match against Chennaiyin FC while scoring his second goal of the match is going back to Portugal for further treatment. On behalf of Atlético de Kolkata we have sent his MRI reports for further consultation with specialists at Atlético de Madrid.

Marrero added, “He will be under observation for three-four weeks where he will recuperate and recover under the watchful eyes of international doctors of repute and Atlético de Madrid support staffs at their academy. The entire Atlético de Kolkata team management wishes him speedy recovery and look forward to his participation in the later part of the Indian Super League.”

An ATK officia reinstated that they had presumed the injury was not serious, it only came to their knowledge today. He said, “We actually thought it wasn’t that big a deal, even Postiga said the same. However, after sending the MRI reports to Chennai, we got feedback today about his current state.”

ATK are all set to face Zico’s FC Goa tomorrow, they will also miss the services of Arnab Mondal and Rino Anto, who will be away on national duty. All eyes will be on Valdo, who scored the third goal for ATK in their Chennai win. Antonio Habas’ men are scheduled to play their first home game in Salt Lake stadium on October 13, the absence of their marquee player will be a huge disappointment for the fans.
