Inter Milan director says Jose Mourinho will take charge at Manchester United
According to Inter Milan director Bedy Moratti, former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will be taking over at Manchester United. Bedy is former Inter president Massimo Moratti’s sister and spoke of the Portuguese manager after she met with him in Italy.
Mourinho has been linked with the Old Trafford hot seat after he was sacked by Chelsea in December last year. The rumours were compounded because of the Red Devils’ poor form under Louis van Gaal. They had been eliminated from the Champions League and had lost their grip on top spot in the Premier League, even falling out of the top four after a run of games without a win.
Thursday night’s shock 2-1 upset against Danish side FC Midtjylland in the Europa League only made matters worse for the under-fire Dutch boss. Although he has repeatedly claimed that he is not going to get sacked, the pressure on him has mounted with every passing game and reports even suggested that a few senior players had lost confidence in him and wanted Mourinho to take over.
He’s going to Manchester: Bedy Moratti
Mourinho is reportedly in Milan for the weekend. He is a guest to watch Inter take on Sampdoria on Saturday night and met up with Bedy Moratti for lunch earlier today.
Bedy is currently the honorary president of Inter Club – a supporters group. And after the lunch meeting with the ex-Inter boss, she was asked by Calcio Mercato whether the club hierarchy missed Mourinho.
“It was pleasant. Of course, he's always fantastic and we miss him on a human level here,” she said with a smile.
When questioned if it was possible to see Mourinho back at the San Siro to manage the Nerazzurri, she said: “No, right now he’s happy, he’s going to Manchester.”
Inter are not looking for a new coach: Massimo Moratti
Moratti still holds the title of Honorary Chairman at Inter after selling the majority stake to Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir in 2013. And when he was asked about the meeting, he said: “It was a meeting between friends, with plenty of memories.”
When questioned about a possible return to Serie A with Inter, he said: “We didn’t talk about [a return to Inter]. He’s thinking of his future while Inter are not looking for a new coach.
“We relived 2010 (Inter won the treble under Mourinho) and other memories from the past. It was an idea we had a while ago [to meet]. A year ago, we thought about having a reunion with all those who had won the Champions League in 2010, and then we arranged to meet this Saturday. Inter fans still love him.”
