Inter Milan Transfer News: Diego Forlan deal made official

It is official!  Inter Milan have announced the signing of Diego Forlan from Atletico Madrid on a two year deal.  After bureaucratic nuances in the deal were sorted out over the last few days, the club announced the deal on their website today.  The fee of the transfer is undisclosed.

Diego Forlan, who emerged as one of the best strikers in the world with his exploits at Atletico Madrid, where he spent 4 years and won the Europa League and the Spanish Super Cup, and his national team Uruguay at the 2010 World Cup and the 2011 Copa America, has been signed as the replacement for Samuel Eto’o after the Cameroonian departed in a big money move to Russian Premier League side Anzhi Makhachkala.  Forlan had a forgettable last season with Atletico, as his form waned due to discontentment with the club.  Yet the striker returned to best in the Copa America for Uruguay and inspired them to glory.

On the deal being made official, Forlan tweeted on his official handle @DiegoForlan7, “Now official: I have signed for Inter de Milano !!!” and put up a picture of himself in Inter colours.  The striker is set for his first training session at his new club as he has arrived at the Centro Sportivo Angelo Moratti, Inter’s training ground.

A statement on Inter’s official website read,

“Diego Forlan is an Inter player. The final bureaucratic details have been tied up and the best player of the 2010 World Cup and Copa America 2011 winner with Uruguay has now officially joined the reigning Club World Cup champions.”

As Inter brace for a new era of change under Gian Piero Gasperini, Forlan brings to the table a huge reputation, despite having huge boots to fill; those of Samuel Eto’o.
