Inter Milan Transfer News: Sneijder Will Stay Next Season, Says Dejan Stankovic
Inter Milan veteran Dejan Stankovic has reiterated his wish for Wesley Sneijder to remain at the club next season and was willing to put his neck out and said that he would. Man United have reportedly opened talks regarding the sale of the Dutch midfielder, but Stankovic believes that Sneijder will remain at the San Siro for the near future.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Stankovic sounded quite confident regarding his teammate’s future. He said-
“In a couple of days you’ll see that Wes will take the microphone and say that he will remain with us at 100 per cent,”
“I bet a pizza and a beer that Wes doesn’t go away.”
Man United have been credited with a heavy interest in the player, who is seen as an ideal replacement for their recently retired midfield talisman Paul Scholes. With the perennially injured Owen Hargreaves also being released by the club, the only midfield options United have left are the inconsistent Michael Carrick, the technically limited Darren Fletcher and the frankly appalling Darren Gibson.
The 32 year old Stankovic admits to not knowing Sneijder that well before his Inter move, but has been hugely impressed by his impact in Italy and urged him to stay in Milan for years to come. He said-
“He has talent and I am convinced that he will give a big hand in this season.
“I honestly didn’t know him before the move, but in these early days the boy has shown he has so much about him.”
Inter recently procured the services of Velez Sarsfield midfielder Ricky Alvarez after a last minute swoop which left Arsenal out in the cold. This was believed to be a replacement signing to prepare for Sneijder’s departure, but Inter coach Gasperini has long since dismissed these suggestions as hokum.
It remains to be seen whether Sneijder chooses to move to Manchester or remain in Italy. United can certainly be persuasive, and they have already made multiple big money signings so far this window. Stay tuned for more in this regard.
