Yaya Toure wants stadiums to be closed down following the racist chants at Moscow

KHIMKI, RUSSIA – OCTOBER 23: Aleksei Berezutski (L) of PFC CSKA Moscow in action against Yaya Toure of Manchester City FC during the UEFA Champions League Group D match between PFC CSKA Moscow and Manchester City FC at the Arena Khimki Stadium

After being at the receiving end of racist chants, Manchester City defender Yaya Toure has urged the UEFA to take stringent measures against racist crimes following his team’s 2-1 Champions League victory over CSKA Moscow in the Russian capital on Wednesday.

Sergio Aguero scored a brace as Manuel Pellegrini’s side came from behind to register an important victory in the group D fixture.

Yaya Toure was quoted as saying by Sky Sports: “I was quite disappointed, for them to do that again was unbelievable and really, really sad. I think UEFA has to do something, that would be nice, because we want to stop that.

“Some songs from the crowd today were quite stupid but I think UEFA has to do something because every time we say something and they continue [to chant]. We have to do something to stop that.”

When asked what kind of punishments he would like to see being imposed, Toure said: “A lot. I think maybe close the stadium, maybe for a couple of games. It’s really sad, we need to do something and hopefully football will continue.”
