Is Edinson Cavani overpriced?
Already fed up with the latest transfer saga which is Edison Cavani? It looks set to continue long into the summer with a lot of money at stake. Cavani himself has come out and said that he is not worth the money being quoted and he wants talks with the Napoli president to resolve his future. Check out Betfair to see where Cavani looks to be headed. He has said:
“I don’t think I’m worth €63m. I will talk to De Laurentiis about it. I owe a lot to Napoli and I want to leave through the front door if I move on.”

There are a couple of things to point out from this statement. The first of which is, Cavani signed the contract which has the clause in. If he didn’t think he was worth that money, then why did he sign it? Cavani is currently in a long-term deal with Napoli and is not on a lot in terms of wages. In terms of Napoli’s season, he is vital. They’re not too far from the Champions League and there is no doubt Cavani would be key in getting Napoli back challenging again in the Champions League.
The second thing I notice is, if Cavani is going to cost the money quoted, then it is likely which ever club he goes to wouldn’t then want to pay massive wages. So it is in his interests to go for less than the buyout clause as he could then receive more in wages, which is what matters to him.
So he has said he is not worth this sort of money but he is likely to have said this as he wants to take more money. One thing we can guarantee though is this saga looks set to go on for most of this summer’s transfer window.
