Is Harry Kane's criticism justified?
A lot of criticism, trolls and memes have been directed towards Harry Kane for claiming a goal against Stoke City in Tottenham's 2-1 win.
From fans to players to even clubs have mocked Kane for claiming a goal that was initially awarded to Christian Eriksen.
Even though Eriksen has supported his teammate in the matter and Spurs also backing their main marksmen, it has had little effect on all the trolls bashing Kane left, right and centre.
Apart from the fans even players especially of Liverpool, have not spared any chance to take a dig at the Tottenham man.
What is the noise all about?
Mame Biram Diouf cancelled out Eriksen’s opener at the Bet365 Stadium during Spurs Premier League match against Stoke, but before long the Danish midfielder’s free-kick found its way into the back of the net in the 63rd minute to restore the visitor’s one-goal advantage.
At the time, Kane claimed to have got a touch and continued to do so even swearing on his daughter’s life that he touched the ball in a subsequent post on social media but the Goals Accreditation Panel awarded it to Eriksen after review.
Tottenham would later launch a successful appeal against the decision and the Premier League has now announced that Kane has been awarded the goal, his 25th of the season.
A statement issued afterwards read:
“The goal had originally been awarded on the day to Christian Eriksen, but after taking the player’s testimony into account and reviewing the match footage, a three-person panel agreed that the final touch on the ball belonged to Kane."
This didn't go down with either the fans or the players especially of Liverpool and the mockery followed on the various social media platform.
While Mohamed Salah twitted about it through a cryptic message which was followed by replies from Liverpool players, AS Roma, Salah's previous employers went a step ahead by creating a troll video on the same.
Kane in an interview said that he can still win the Golden Boot even after missing some matches due to injury and it could be concluded that the desperation for the same might have made him claim the goal in the way he did.
He trails Salah by five goals in the race to Golden Boot currently.
Is the criticism justified?
The way Kane has gone about claiming the goal shows his inner desire to be a winner and his ambition for glory.
While some may not agree to it and put team ethics over it but it is legit that he claimes the goal he really got the final touch.
The incidence shows that Kane has a great desire to win the Golden Boot and this quality will definitely help him in achieving great things in his career.
Kane is one of the top five strikers in world football and is tipped to become one of the greats of the game.
A player becomes a legend only when he has an immense desire to succeed. The recent episode shows that Kane has that and will do anything to achieve glory.
While some may call him selfish for this but if in a game of football a striker isn't selfish then who would be?
While some criticism was understandable but the way Kane has been mocked all around has crossed the line. It isn't right to mock a player's desire to win.
The incident of him claiming that goal might not be right in the mind of few and everyone has the right to express their opinion but there is a limit to the amount of criticism that is directed towards the player especially on things that aren't too serious like this.
