Is the Bundesliga becoming Europe's strongest league?

Over the last few years, the discussion has been if the English Premier League or the Spanish La Liga are Europe’s best league, but calmly and quietly in the background, Germany’s Bundesliga has been establishing itself as a possible contender to overtake the two mentioned leagues, especially with UEFA’s Financial Fair Play set to kick-off in the coming years. Those who do not follow the Bundesliga regularly would question how Germany’s league has been able to remain stable amongst all this turmoil and still grow in these difficult times.

The first reason is financial stability and the 50%+1 ownership rule, under which the club remains in control of themselves rather then an outside investor who could lose interest with time or not have the necessary funds. Then there are the financial regulations of the Bundesliga, which are amongst the toughest in club world football. Due to these regulations, clubs try to wisely spend their money and not risk major debt as clubs elsewhere do.

Also, the Bundesliga has always been fan friendly and it is trying to grow its international commercial appeal. It has been ensuring that fans keep coming to the stadiums to watch their clubs. The Bundesliga continues to have the cheapest ticket prices amongst the top European leagues, as well as the highest attendances.

And one should not forget the top quality of football on display in German stadiums with the league also the most even and competitive amongst those top leagues in which any club can beat another side.

If you aren’t watching the Bundesliga then you should surely start to do so…
