ISL 2016: Debjit Majumder says Atletico de Kolkata leaving no stone unturned for first leg of semi-final

Debjit Majumder has been one of the stars of the ATK side

Ahead of Atletico de Kolkata’s first-leg semi-final clash against Mumbai City FC, keeper Debjit Majumder believes the side is ready to face the team that topped the league ahead of the knockout round.

Majumder is also the keeper for I-League club Mohun Bagan and has been one of the more impressive shot-stoppers in the tournament so far with three clean sheets in 14 games.

However, he has not been above the occasional mistake as witnessed during ATK’s home game against Kerala Blasters. He made a mess of collecting a cross from Mehtab Hossain giving CK Vineeth an open target and an easy early goal. Later, speaking about that gaffe, he said, “I admit I conceded a silly goal in the last match. But that is football and it’s part of the game.”

Despite his usual solidity in front of goal, Kolkata’s defence has proved lacking on many occasions. Their countless draws have been a result of conceding late after being in the lead for most of the match but the goalkeeper feels its time to leave the past behind and look forward to the game at hand.

According to him, all the players are hard at work and leaving no stone unturned in their preparation to host Mumbai City at the Rabindra Sarobar Stadium today as now is the “time to get serious”.

Nothing to worry in defence, says Majumder

Debjit said, “We believe in the whole squad. There is nothing to worry in defence. In football, you will concede goals. Now it’s a different ball game. They (Mumbai) beat us here and we respect that. Now it’s time to get serious.”

The last time Mumbai visited Kolkata, the home side lost 1-0 through a late goal from Mumbai’s marquee player Diego Forlan. The Uruguayan forward has been in stellar form for his side scoring a hat-trick against Kerala Blasters a couple of weeks ago.

Speaking about the threat that Forlan poses for the side, Debjit commented, “We have seen his videos. He is a big player and we have to be alert.”

Atletico de Kolkata hosts Mumbai in the first leg of the semi-final today and the second leg is scheduled to be held on Tuesday.
