ISL 2016: FC Pune City 1-1 Chennaiyin FC - 5 talking points
Defending champions Chennaiyin FC climbed up to the third place of the Indian Super League points table after drawing 1-1 against FC Pune City on Sunday. It looked like the Super Machans will go home with three points, with them leading the game from the 28th minute through a Jeje Lalpekhlua goal, but an 82nd goal from Anibal Rodriguez levelled the score for the home side.
Even though Chennaiyin FC extended their undefeated streak to three, they missed their chance to go on top of the table with a win. FC Pune City, who is having the worst start to an ISL season since it's inception, will be relieved that they were able to get a point.
Here are the main talking points from the game.
#1 Jeje Lalpekhlua returns to Chennai starting lineup in style
Indian striker Jeje Lalpekhlua returned to Chennai's starting lineup on Sunday after sitting out for the last two games. The 25-year-old was suffering from a slight injury but made his return against Pune.
The Indian marked his return to the lineup with a spectacular goal. The top Indian goal scorer of the ISL bullied Pune's Eduardo off the ball and shot from outside the box over Edel into the net.
Jeje was impressive and very influential for the away side throughout the game. The Indian striker was also awarded the Hero of the Match award for his performance and his return will be a huge boost for Marco Materazzi.
