ISL 2016: Mumbai City FC 2-0 Chennaiyin FC - Player Ratings

Mumbai City became the first team to book their place in the semis

Mumbai City FC confirmed their place in the semifinals of this year’s ISL with a convincing 2-0 win over Chennaiyin FC. Goals from Matias Defederico and Krisztian Vadocz ensured that the defending champions were soundly beaten.

Here is how each player fared.

Mumbai City FC

Amrinder Singh - 6/10

He might as well have sat in the stands, as Chennaiyin didn't give him single save to make.

Sehnaj Singh - 5/10

Sehnaj looked uncertain in the second half as Chennaiyin used Riise and Daniel very well down that side. But, no damage was done. This isn’t his natural position, and in the bigger games to come for Mumbai, Aibor Khongjee might prove to be a better bet at right-back.

Anwar Ali - 6/10

Anwar was comfortable as for large parts of the game; Succi was isolated. He did have a challenge once Dudu came on and made a nuisance of himself, but Anwar pitted himself well.

Lucian Goian - 6/10

He is the leader of this defence, and he once again showed. Even though Chennaiyin's attack was off-colour, he was vocal, organised the defence well and ensured that the clean sheet was intact.

Sena Ralte - 6/10

He was eager to get forward at every opportunity and proved a useful outlet. He defended very well against Jayesh. Chhetri helped him out when required, as he willingly tracked back. But, in truth, Ralte had a reasonably easy day at the office, made largely by Wadoo having a shocker of a game.

Gerson Viera - 5/10

He was untidy on the ball and made a few stupid fouls. But Vadocz covered for him, with the Hungarian having an absolute stormer of a game.

Krisztian Vadocz - 9/10

What a goal that was from Vadocz. Apart from that stunner, he played beautifully in the defensive midfield role, ensuring that Raphael didn't get any space. He also played an integral part in putting Chhetri in, to find Defedrico for Mumbai’s opener. Man of the Match.

Cafu - 6/10

He tried hard, but more often than not, his quality deserted him.

Matias Defederico - 8.5/10

Matias Defederico
Matias Defederico was on target again for Mumbai

Defederico had a superb game as he troubled Riise with his pace all game. His ability to find space between the lines is an asset for Mumbai. It was a beautiful finish to give Mumbai the lead after Chhetri had put it on a plate for him.

Diego Forlan - 8/10

He controlled the play for Mumbai as he brought Chhetri and Defederico into play. The rotation of the front three caused havoc in the Chennaiyin defence. He seemed to be tired in the dying embers of the game as he misplaced some passes, which by his standards, he should have routinely made. Mumbai were looking at a much bigger scoreline as Chennaiyin were there for the taking. It is nice to see a marquee player living up to his billing, for once, in the ISL.

Sunil Chhetri - 8/10

The Indian captain had a stunning game. He played the pass for Defederico's opener. Everything that has made him the legend he is was there to see. The desire, the strength and most importantly, the quality. His exchanges with Forlan and Defedrico were a joy to watch.

Substitutes

Facundo Cardozo - 5/10

He came on for Cafu and helped Mumbai keep the lead.

Jackichand Singh - 4/10

He came on late in the game for the brilliant Chhetri.

Tino Cunha - 4/10

He had a chance brilliantly saved by Karanjit thirty seconds after he came on for Defederico in the 86th minute.
