Indian Super League (ISL) club Bengaluru FC are sporting green jerseys today in the match against ATK at the Salt Lake Stadium to support the eco-friendly movement in the country.

JSW, the group that owns Bengaluru FC, have PSC (Portland Slag Cement), an eco-friendly cement that is, essentially, a non-metallic product comprising of more than 90% glass with silicates and alumino-silicates of lime. The production of PSC reduces air emissions at steel plants through the granulation process, thereby reducing the environmental impact of concrete.

The Bengaluru players are donning green jerseys to stand with JSW group's eco-friendly cement, which in turn, stands with the eco-friendly movement.

The official statement read: "Considering the climatic changes that have taken place over the years, the JSW Group's stand on producing cement in an eco-friendly manner is more than commendable and Bengaluru FC is proud to be associated with it.

"The Blues have kept the community on the forefront of all our decisions and it has been equally important to stand up for our surroundings. The Blues, tonight, will go green. Because the environment matters and BFC cares."

Even last year, Bengaluru had donned pink jerseys to commemorate the International Women's Day when they faced Chennai City FC in the I-League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai.

In a day and age where global warming and environmental pollution are some of the biggest concerns for mankind, it is gestures like these that can make a substantial difference. Football is one of the most popular sports in the country and what better way to raise environmental awareness.

Royal Challengers Bangalore are another Bengaluru based franchise who are known for taking up such initiatives. The Indian Premier League (IPL) team have sported green jerseys so as to spread a message on environmental conservation on numerous occasions over the past few years.
