ISL 2017/18: Bengaluru FC sign former La Liga midfielder Victor Perez Alonso
After having made a sweet bit of business in the Edu Garcia deal, Bengaluru FC have now signed a replacement for their former midfielder, with the business end of the Indian football season coming up.
Just one day after completing their quota of 18 league stage games, the Blues have now announced the signing of midfielder Victor Perez Alonso on a short-term contract. Alonso had last played for Wisla Karkow in Poland, a club that he signed for in September last year. However, his time at the Polish outfit did not last too long, as he was released last month.
Bengaluru FC, who had recently sold their star midfielder Edu Garcia to Chinese side Zhejiang Lucheng in an Indian record deal. Now, the Blues have signed Alonso as a replacement for Garcia, in a short-term deal, that is set to last until the end of the upcoming Super Cup.
“Victor is an experienced player and will provide us with a good option as we enter the business end of the season. The ISL play-offs are at the door and we even have the AFC Cup and the Super Cup to play for, where his experience will come handy,” Said Bengaluru FC head coach Albert Roca.
Alonso, who was present at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru during the Blues' 2-0 victory over bitter rivals Kerala Blasters, was clearly impressed by the passion that the fans showed in the Southern Derby.
“I was at the stadium to watch the game last night and enjoyed the way the team played. The atmosphere was fantastic too. I’m really happy to be here and cannot wait to get on the pitch and contribute to all that this club is trying to achieve,” said Alonso.
The 30-year-old Alonso is set to add a lot of experience to the side, after having played in the Spanish La Liga with Real Valladolid. He had made a brief move to the Major League Soccer in the USA, where he played for Chicago Fire, before returning to the Iberian Peninsula.
