What’s the story?

Despite ending up on the losing side in Sunday’s encounter against Mumbai City FC, FC Goa striker Ferran Corominas created a record by scoring the most number of goals in the league stage of a single ISL season.

In case you didn’t know...

The Spaniard playing his first ISL season has taken the league by storm as he has made goal scoring look easy and classy and the same time.

It must be noted that in this season the teams will be playing 18 league matches compared to the earlier editions when the franchises used to play 14 games as there were a total of eight teams as compared to 10 which are competing this time around.

The heart of the matter

In a match which saw plenty of goals – 7 to be exact, Corominas netted twice in the 34th and 78th minutes respectively. With these two strikes he took his total tally of goals to 12. The ones who are behind him in the list are Stiven Mendoza who had scored 11 goals in 13 matches (2015) for Chennaiyin FC, Marcelo Pereira who had scored 9 goals in 13 games (2016) for Delhi Dynamos and former Chennaiyin player Elano who had netted eight goals in nine games (2014).

What’s next?

Corominas failed to win the game for his team even after registering this feat as Mumbai City FC snatched all three points having scored 4 goals and conceded 3. Now Coro has to shift his attention to the next match and he will definitely try to add to his tally to help his team secure the playoff berth.

Author’s take

Corominas has been a revelation this season as he has showcased extraordinary skills inside the penalty box. Be it dribbling or shooting, the former Espanyol players possesses every quality in his armoury which has, in turn, helped him create this goal-scoring feat. Surely we would be witnessing many more strikes from the Spaniard in the upcoming days.
