ISL 2017/18: Kerala Blasters look to sign Antonio German in January transfer window
Struggling side Kerala Blasters are said to be mulling over the possibility of bringing former forward Antonio German back to Kochi, in an attempt to increase their firepower up front.
The Blasters have been struggling so far this season, having mustered only four wins from 13 matches so far this season. A poor string of performances saw last year's runners-up slip down to the bottom half of the table, as former manager Rene Meulensteen was sacked earlier this month.
The Blasters have been able to string a few performances together after new manager David James took over at the club, but have been inconsistent, winning three, drawing one, and losing two under the former Liverpool and Manchester City custodian.
Attacking has been an area of concern for the Blasters this season, despite the presence of quality players like Iain Hume, Dimitar Berbatov and CK Vineeth. To add to that, they have also signed Baldvinsson earlier this week.
According to sources close to the club, the Blasters are looking to bring German back, to try and give them more options going forward.
One issue with signing another foreign player at this stage is that Kerala have already completed their quota of eight foreigners in the squad. However, Kizito Keziron is said to have sustained a long-term injury, and could be released soon, if his injury persists through the season.
German had been a part of the Kerala squad for two successive seasons in 2015 and 2016, when he had helped the club reach the final of the ISL. However, he went on to join Ebbsfleet United, in the English sixth division, in summer.
While German has certainly mesmerised the Kochi crowd before, it remains to be seen if he can do the same after spending half a season in the sixth division.
