ISL 2017/18: NorthEast United FC to sign former Bundesliga striker John Mosquera
ISL's fourth season has reached a crucial juncture with many teams trying to get into the top four while the ones who have performed brilliantly are trying to keep up the good work. In the midst of all this, coaches are getting sacked and new players are being bought the teams during the January transfer window.
NorthEast United FC are one of the teams struggling to find the rhythm. They are second last on the table with 10 points from an equal number of matches. With just eight games to go in the league stage, the John Abraham-owned franchise are all set to offload their 30-year-old striker, Odair Fortes.
Sources close to the club confirmed to Sportskeeda that NorthEast are planning to bring Colombian striker John Jairo Mosquera on board for the rest of the ISL season.
Incidentally, NorthEast have struggled big time due to their inability to score goals. They have managed to find the back of the net on just seven occasions which has also had an adverse effect on their goal difference (-8).
Fortes has been a big disappointment as he has only managed to take one shot in the 177 minutes that he has played and that is one of the main reasons why the club has chalked the striker out.
His replacement Mosquera last played for Chilean club Deportes La Serena where he scored eight goals in 21 league games in the second division. He spent a major part of his professional career in Germany and even had a stint at Werder Bremen where he appeared in three Bundesliga games.
NorthEast are yet to officially announce the move but given the fact that they have already parted ways with Portuguese coach Joao de Deus and appointed former Chelsea boss Avram Grant as the head coach, this transfer isn’t far from getting materialised.
