What's the story?

ISL franchise NorthEast United FC are close to retaining the services of their defender Reagan Singh with contract talks going on with the left-back.

In case you didn't know...

Reagan Singh started his senior career at Meghalayan club Royal Wahingdoh FC and played three seasons for them. He was a part of their I-League 2nd Division side that earned the promotion to the I-League where he impressed as Royal Wahingdoh finished third in their debut season. Reagan Singh was awarded a call-up to the Indian national side.

The heart of the matter

NorthEast United FC are in close talks with their left-back Reagan Singh for a contract extension going into the next ISL season, Sportskeeda has learnt.

Reagan Singh played for the first time in the Indian Super League for the Highlanders when he was drafted in the second season in 2015. He played for Salgaocar in the following season in the I-League before being retained again by the NorthEast United for the third season of the ISL.

Reagan was sent on loan to I-League side Mumbai FC last season and was a regular fixture in the lineup for them. He was retained again by the Highlanders in the 2017 ISL Draft.

The NorthEast United side aims to continue their association with Reagan, who has been a constant in their backline plying his trade at the left-back position, starting 15 games this season.

What's next?

After having lost their Super Cup qualifier against Gokulam Kerala, NorthEast United FC will be looking to build for the upcoming season. While they do have an experienced name in the form of Avram Grant at the helm of affairs, the Israeli will need to build the squad from scratch, in order to prevent a disastrous season like this one.

Author's take

Reagan Singh is a competent left-back and has a good work rate on the pitch with a no-nonsense style of defending. NorthEast United will benefit from his contract extension as they aim to build a good side for next season after a poor showing in the ISL this year.
