What's the story?

The ongoing season of the ISL, which is only ten matches young, has already played host to some nail-biting contests.

Not only this, fans have had a lot to cheer about with the ball finding the back of the net 28 times in the ten games so far, beating the record for the most goals in the first ten games of the previous seasons.

In case you didn't know

In the first ten games of the previous editions, 24 goals (2014), 26 goals (2015) and 19 goals (2016) were scored.

Prior to the start of the ongoing season, two new teams, Bengaluru FC and Jamshedpur FC became part of the ISL, that also made the league a 10-team tournament.

The heart of the matter

While the first two matches of the season started off with goalless stalemates, the third game featuring Chennaiyin FC and FC Goa kicked off the goal tally as Goa went on to clinch the thriller 3-2 at full time.

Since then, the league has witnessed goals aplenty with FC Pune City and Bengaluru FC, the latest entrants into the league, leading the goal tally with six goals from two games apiece while Chennaiyin FC have managed to score five from two games.

FC Goa and Delhi Dynamos find themselves tied on four goals from the two matches so far while Mumbai City FC has managed to score two goals. Inaugural champions Atletico de Kolkata have just the solitary one from their two encounters.

What's next?

With a lot of interesting clashes lined up for the rest of the ISL, if the current form is anything to go by, one can expect more records to be broken throughout the whole season which could also bear witness to some intense clashes and mini-player battles.

Author's Take

Given the huge talent pool that is currently representing various franchises, it is hardly surprising to see records being broken at an early stage of the ISL.

The presence of some seasoned footballers along with budding youngsters has added a whole new dimension to the current season which could aid the development of football for a long time to come.
