ISL 2017: Dimitar Berbatov will join the Kerala Blasters squad in the coming days
What's the story?
Kerala Blasters shocked the Indian Football community by announcing the inclusion of ex-Manchester United attacker Dimitar Berbatov into their armoury. The Bulgarian Football legend hasn't joined the team yet, but with the help of our sources, Sportskeeda can confirm that the veteran attacker will join the team in Spain this week.
In case you didn't know...
The fourth edition of Indian Super League is all set to kick-start its new venture on November 17 as Kerala Blasters and Atletico de Kolkata will go head-to-head, in what will be the curtain raiser for the new ISL season.
With the tournament just one and a half month away from the kick-off, teams have been busy doing the preparatory camps. Under the helm of Rene Muelensteen, Kerala Blasters will undergo their camp in Spain.
The heart of the matter
Kerala Blasters started their camp earlier this month, but Rene Muelensteen, as well as their foreign recruitment's, has not joined the camp.
Kerala Blasters' marquee Dimitar Berbatov will join the squad on October 1, according to Bulgarian writer Metodi Shumanov. Berbatov was practicing with Bulgarian side CSKA Sofia and even made an appearance for Hristov Stoichkov's team against Barcelona Dream team, a game in which he scored a hat-trick.
The presence of the player from the beginning of the camp will certainly buoy the Yellow Army's squad and will be a great experience for the youngsters.
What's next?
Kerala Blasters' training will be based on Marbella as indicated earlier. The team will play against some teams from the Segunda division. It's also understood that other foreign recruitments will be a part of the camp from the beginning, while Rene Muelensteen will join the squad as soon as possible.
Author's take
The team underwent their pre-season at Thailand the previous year. The side played 3 games there and it helped them in hitting the ground running. With the overseas players joining the camps, Kerala Blasters could gel quickly and better last year's performance. The camp will particularly benefit the younger players who need all the exposure they can get.
