Another home game, another win for Mumbai City FC. On Sunday, the Islanders extended their winning run at home to six games, last season included. Once again, Alexandre Guimaraes' men ground out a result as they battled hard to secure a 1-0 victory over Chennayin FC in their ISL match up.

This was a typical Mumbai performance, the players were solid at the back and kept it compact all across their half. They rarely ventured forward and were content in playing aerial balls to break up play.

The home side had three shots on target compared to Chennai's five. Mumbai also committed 24 fouls, signalling their intent to slug it out and secure a result without caring too much about the way they achieve it. Guimaraes admitted that his players are intent on making Mumbai an unbreachable fortress.

He said, "We knew that we have to be very strong at home. We understood after the first half, the kind of game, the rivals are trying to play. We adjusted some things and we deserved the win in the second half."

"They had get chances but we had too many chances too. We are back in the tournament with this. I'm happy that we are showing that it will be difficult to get points here," he added.

Chennai's coach John Gregory suggested that his side were clearly better on the night and created more openings.

The visitors did have a couple of clear-cut chances, however, they failed to keep their composure or else Mumbai would have found themselves in a spot of bother. Guimaraes though shrugged it off stating that Mumbai want to win irrespective of his sides defensive approach.

"We've won earlier on a 1-0 scoreline too. The thing is that we won; of course, we had chances to score more goals but today 1-0 was enough. We played better than them in the second half. Every game will be like a battle, tonight we won the battle," he signed off.
