ISL 2017: Kerala Blasters fans come up with new chant for Sandesh Jhingan
What’s the story?
With just four days left for the ISL 2017 season to start, Kerala Blasters fans seem to have come up with a new chant for one of their crowd favourites, defender Sandesh Jhingan.
In case you didn’t know…
The Kerala Blasters fans are known to be a passionate lot. They have surprised one and all over the last three ISL seasons, by thronging to the stadiums, as they cheer their team on through thick and thin.
Most recently, the Blasters fans were rewarded for their loyalty to their club, as their official fan club, Manjappada was awarded the Best Fan Club of the Year award, at the Indian Sports Awards.
Heart of the matter
Sandesh Jhingan is one of the best centrebacks in the country, and has been a reliable pillar at the heart of the Kerala defence over the last three seasons. Now, as he looks forward to playing a fourth straight season for the Blasters, one of the fnas, on Reddit, seems to have come up with a new chant for the man, who is often referred to as the ‘Minister of Defence’.
While it is yet to be seen how this chant will sound inside the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi, it will be interesting to see how Jhingan reacts to it.
What’s next?
With just four days left for the Indian Super League to kick-off, the Kerala Blasters will be raring to go against old foes ATK, who have beaten them in two different ISL finals, in 2014 and 2016. The Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi is set to be packed to the rafters on November 17, as the two ISL heavyweights clash against each other.
Author’s take
The Kerala Blasters fans have certainly impressed one and all, as they have shown stellar loyalty to their club and its players. While the club’s performance itself has been inconsistent over the last three years (they finished runners up twice, and bottom of the table once), their fans’ passion has been unerring. It will be interesting to see whether the Yellow Army can be their 12th man and spur them on to glory this time round.
