ISL 2017: Kerala Blasters star CK Vineeth lashes out at abusive fans on Twitter
What's the Story?
CK Vineeth played a crucial role in Kerala Blasters FC's 1-0 win over NorthEast United FC. Vineeth was the lone goal scorer in a match which was closely contested and also saw NorthEast United go down to 10 men in the first half itself.
The former Bengaluru FC man hasn't been in the best of moods, however, this owing to the hurtful comments he received on Twitter when he conducted a Q and A earlier this week.
In case you didn't know...
Vineeth had donned the India colours previously and had made his debut in 2013, going on to appear in seven games for India so far.
Heart of the Matter
The 29-year-old had conducted a Q and A session on Twitter earlier this week. The session was a hit amongst fans and fellow KBFC player Rino Anto also indulged in some light-hearted banter.
Some fans, however, went to extreme lengths, taking trolling to another level that could be considered as borderline abuse. Vineeth was extremely displeased to see this and gave a statement in Malayalam on Twitter.
He said, "Trolling is fine, but there is absolutely no need to direct comments and abuses towards the family. But they need to know when to draw the line."
In a strongly worded statement, Vineeth also said, “Real fans are the ones who will back you to the hilt even when the chips are down. Most people are real fans and it is just pure passion that you see in their reactions, but there are a few bad apples that spoil the basket.”
What's Next?
Kerala Blaster's performances in this season of ISL have been below par. They had three draws and one defeat in their first four games and the win against NorthEast United was their first win this season. They are scheduled to play their next game against Chennaiyin FC today.
Author's Opinion
While trolling can be fun, it gets out of hand when it turns into abuse. No player should ever be on the receiving end of abuse and fans should keep in mind that the words they say eventually affects the player mentally, which can affect his performance on the field. Vineeth should forget about this and focus on KBFC's next few games. His performance on the field is crucial to Kerala's success going forward in the league.
