ISL 2017, Match 44: FC Goa vs Jamshedpur FC, Player Ratings
FC Goa have had a tiring week, having played a delayed game against ATK and then travelling to Guwahati to face NorthEast United FC.
While they drew against ATK and lost in Guwahati, the Gaurs finally managed to get themselves back on the winning track with a win against the stubborn Jamshedpur FC side.
However, the match itself was marred by controversies as Goa were awarded a questionable penalty, through which Manuel Lanzarote put them ahead, while there seemed to be a hint of off-side in their second (and the winning) goal, which was also scored by the same player.
On that note, let's take a look at how the two sets of players performed in the match that was billed as the 'best attack vs the best defence' in ISL.
FC Goa
Laxmikant Kattimani (6/10): Laxmikant Kattimani didn’t have much to do. Most of the saves he made was regular ones, and he couldn’t have done anything during the goal Goa conceded.
Seriton Fernandes (6/10): He was often found beaten by the likes of Jairu, but almost always covered his tracks to stop a lot of crosses from getting into the box.
Bruno Pinheiro (8/10): He did a great job in keeping the likes of Trindade and Azuka quiet. Pinheiro also helped Goa keep possession of the ball.
Mohamed Ali (7/10): Ali had another good game for Goa as he helped Bruno keep the Jamshedpur strikers at bay. He also covered for his wing-backs.
Narayan Das (6.5/10): Narayan was often left wanting in defence, but did well to aid Mandar Rao Desai while going forward.
Ahmed Jahouh (7/10): Jahouh could have been sent off in the first half itself, as he went in with his studs showing a couple of times. Apart from that though, Ahmed did exactly what he set out to do. He stopped a lot of Jamshedpur attacks in the midfield, and also put in a number of last-ditch tackles to save some crucial shots.
Edu Bedia (6/10): Edu Bedia had one of those rare nights in which he was poor. He missed a golden opportunity to make it three for Goa, where he failed to score in an open goal.
Brandon Fernandes (6.5/10): He was the one who earned Goa the initial penalty. Brandon also tracked back and helped out Seriton in defence, making sure the likes of Jairu couldn’t get many crosses into the box.
Manuel Lanzarote (8/10): Lanzarote had a good game for Goa, scoring a brace, the first from a penalty which he had to take twice, while he turned Andre Bikey and curled one into the top left corner of the goal for the second one.
Mandar Rao Desai (6/10): Mandar had an average game down the left wing for Goa. He didn’t have much success with his crosses or runs down the flank.
Coro (6/10): Corro, the mercurial striker of the league, having a quiet day in office is not something one sees every day. He wasn’t seen on the ball much even though he did provide some good passes to Lanzarote.
