ISL 2017: NorthEast United FC's Adilson out with injury for indefinite period
What's the story?
NorthEast United FC are having a torrid time so far in the ISL 2017 season. With four losses in their six games and still without a win at their home ground, this season is slowly but surely going downwards for the Highlanders. On top of that, Joao De Deus' men have received another setback in a bid to salvage their campaign.
Sportskeeda can reveal that NorthEast United's midfielder Adilson has suffered a serious injury. A club official has admitted that any further action from the Brazilian in the ISL is difficult to predict as the midfielder may be out for the remainder of the season.
In case you didn't know...
Adilson was one of the eight foreign signings that NorthEast United had announced on the deadline day before the start of the season.
The 29-year-old last played for Portuguese club Arouca where he made 58 appearances and scored 5 goals. The Brazilian is a box to box midfielder and was the Highlanders' number 8 for the current campaign.
The heart of the matter
NorthEast United were said to have a solid midfield contingent with the likes of Marcinho, Rowlin Borges and Adilson leading the way. But the recent revelation that Adilson will be out for an indefinite period is set to deliver a big blow to NorthEast United's hopes of a playoff berth this season.
It is also understood that Adilson has been sent back home from the club's Guwahati based home camp as the midfielder will start his rehabilitation in Brazil. Adilson is expected to start training next year but a definite date of return cannot be predicted as yet.
What's next?
It is expected that Adilson will not be seen in action for Season 4. The club is expected to delve into the transfer market to look for his replacement in the January transfer window.
Author's take
NorthEast United need to find a way out of their current slump to have a chance of making their first ever knockout appearance. But the John Abraham owned side will now have to do that without the presence of their no.8 - Adilson who is expected to be missed sorely by the struggling side.
