ISL 2017: "Robin Singh's injury does not look good," laments ATK coach Teddy Sheringham

The past 18 months have been tough for Robin Singh. The Indian national team striker suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear last year and ever since, he's never been the same. Nobody doubted his quality though and on Sunday, he came up with the goods to hand ATK their first win of the ISL season.

Singh scored a poacher's goal against Mumbai City FC on Sunday, which was the only goal of the night and put a smile on his coach Teddy Sheringham's face. However, his glorious night came to an abrupt hault in the second half.

Mumbai's captain, Lucian Goian laid into him in the second half and Robin was down for a good two minutes before he limped off in disappointment. He attempted to jog a bit on the sidelines hoping to return but the pain was just too much and he was assisted off the ground.

ATK coach, Sheringham heaped praise on his striker at the post-match press conference.

"Robin Singh was one of the 14 players that did their job. I was delighted that he got on the score-sheet. He listens and wants to learn more and he's got fantastic attributes," the coach beamed.

Teddy also provided an update on Robin's injury. The coach isn't too confident about how quickly he can return to full fitness. At first sight, the injury looked serious and the coach confirmed the same. Goian lunged into the striker from an awkward angle and Robin felt the full force of the tackle.

"If you seem him in the changing room now, you'll see that it is pretty serious. It's just one thing after another for us at the moment. He's gone over on his ankle and he already had a bad knee. We were trying to look after that in the last couple of weeks. I am not sure how long it will be but it doesn't look good at the moment," he explained.
