ISL 2017: Sandesh Jhingan leads Kerala Blasters players and fans to do the Viking Clap, watch video
From originating in the Scottish Premier League to being made famous by the Iceland national team, the Viking clap has found its way into the Indian Super League. In it, the supporters clap in unison, building up the tempo slowly.
Starting slowly, it gradually grows into a fearful battle cry from the supporters. From the Orange Army for FC Pune City to Bengaluru FC's West Block Blues, the Viking clap has been used at length this season in the country.
Yesterday, it was Sandesh Jhingan who orchestrated the Viking claps chant in front of the Kerala Blasters crowd after the Kochi side's first win of ISL 2017. The Blasters won last night through a CK Vineeth goal as the home side beat North East United FC in a close encounter.
After the final whistle, the Blasters squad were congratulating one another when Jhingan called upon his teammates to thank the crowd. The centre-back then started the Viking clapping with the sea of the crowd later joining in. It turned out to be a spectacle to behold with the entire stand doing the claps in unison.
After the Sunil Chhetri-inspired Viking clap by Bengaluru FC, it was brilliant to see Sandesh Jhingan and Kerala Blasters get in on the act as well.
The Kerala Blasters fans were denied the opportunity to practice the Viking clap at their iconic Jawaharlal Nehru stadium in Kochi, as their side went on a four-match winless run at the start of the season. However, they seemed to have turned things around in the last game, and will look to build on this victory.
