ISL 2018-19, Bengaluru FC 1-0 Delhi Dynamos: Hits and flops as Udanta scores winner
Bengaluru FC climbed to the top of the Indian Super League (ISL) table with a 1-0 win over Delhi Dynamos on a day which saw Sunil Chhetri make his 150th appearance for the club.
Although the build-up was around Chhetri, he was unable to make a mark on Monday as he was marked out by the defiant Dynamos defenders Marti Crespi and Gianni Zuiverloon.
However, winger Udanta Singh found his scoring feet by smashing home the winner in the 87th minute with a neatly-directed shot from outside the box into the bottom-left corner. The shot took a deflection on its way in and bounced off the left post into the back of the net.
Both sides had few chances to score and although the visitors, who are yet to win in the ISL, had the better chances, they couldn't convert them into goals.
Here are the hits and flops from the game:
#5 Gurpreet Singh Sandhu (Bengaluru FC) - Hit
Gurpreet continued to show why he's the best goalkeeper in the country with some fabulous saves that helped BFC push ahead.
Gurpreet, who is leading the race for the Golden Glove, was called into action quite a few times in the first half itself.
He showed great composure to deny Lallianzuala Chhangte from point-blank range in the 31st minute.
Four minutes before the half-time, Marcos Tebar provided Nandhakumar Sekar a great pass on the right and Nandha had a poke at the goal from the right. Gurpreet had to quickly react and he deflected the shot away by making a fine clearance with his right foot.
This save clearly kept Bengaluru FC in the game and not concede against the run of play.
He also had to venture out of the box to clear the ball when Albert Serran left the back-pass for Gurpreet while Adria Carmona was lurking. There was a moment in the second half too when he had to play the role of a sweeper-keeper.
Gurpreet wasn't tested much in the second half as Delhi either couldn't set up a clear scoring opportunity or their shots were flying over the bar.
