What's the story?

FC Goa, who had a semifinal finish in the recently concluded ISL season, have roped in Bengaluru FC midfielder Lenny Rodrigues on a two-year deal, after the Blues lost their summit clash against Chennaiyin FC last week.

In case you didn't know...

Lenny Rodrigues began his youth footballing career at Fransa-Pax FC in Goa and moved on to Salgaocar FC in 2006. He turned down a senior team contract at Salgaocar to move on to Churchill Brothers, the club he supported as a child. He won the I-League in his first season at Churchill Brothers before moving onto ISL franchise FC Pune City after six years in 2014.

The heart of the matter

FC Goa have signed Bengaluru FC midfielder Lenny Rodrigues on a two-year deal that will come into effect from once the summer transfer window opens, as confirmed to Sportskeeda by the ISL franchise.

Rodrigues played the first three ISL seasons at FC Pune City and had a couple of loan stints in the I-League with Dempo SC, Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC. He was signed by Bengaluru FC when they joined the ISL and had a productive season with the Blues. He featured in thirteen matches for the side in the season as they reached the ISL final in their debut season.

The 30-year-old has been an Indian national team regular since making his debut back in 2012 and is a useful option in the midfield with good ball distribution and defensive skills.

What's next?

Lenny Rodrigues will play for Bengaluru FC in the Super Cup and then will move on to FC Goa officially, when the transfer window opens.

Author's take

The lanky Goan midfielder could prove to be a handy addition to the FC Goa midfield who dazzled this season with their attacking performances. Lenny Rodrigues could bring in a much-needed defensive stability to their lineup.
