What's the story?

Last year's runners-up Bengaluru FC have announced the signing of defender Albert Serran on a one-year contract. Serran had already featured for Bengaluru FC during pre-season, as he appeared in the matches against Villareal 'B' and FC Barcelona 'B'.

In case you didn't know...

The Spaniard was a product of Espanyol's youth academy and went on to play over six seasons for their reserve side. Finding it difficult to break into the first team, Serran switched countries and landed up in Wales.

The Spanish defender started plying his trade at Welsh side Swansea City, who competed in England's lower divisions at that time. He was in their books from 2008-11.

Following his departure from Swansea, Serran began his long journey which led him to Bengaluru. During that time, he played in several countries such as Cyprus, Albania, Spain, and Morocco.

The heart of the matter

Bengaluru FC have announced, via Twitter, that they have completed the signing of defender Albert Serran. The Spaniard was a trialist for the Blues during their pre-season and now signs a one-year contract.

"It’s a great experience in my career to sign for Bengaluru FC. The pre-season in Spain was great and I had the chance to meet the staff and players. I was given a warm welcome and felt very good from the beginning. I’m expecting to arrive in Bengaluru soon, to know more about the fans and the city," Serran said in his first interview with Bengaluru.

Serra now links up with his new teammates ahead of their Indian Super League season opener as Carles Cuadrat and his new-look Bengaluru side look to go title-hunting yet again.

What's next?

Bengaluru FC have been one of the best clubs in India over the past few years. They gave proof of the fact by finishing second in their first-ever Indian Super League season. The side from Bengaluru also went on to win the inaugural Super Cup.

They will look to mount a title challenge yet again and have made the moves in the transfer market to back the same. Time will tell whether this is the season in which Bengaluru FC win their first ISL title.
