ISL 2018: Harmanjot Singh Khabra extends contract with Bengaluru FC

Bengaluru FC's defensive lynchpin Harmanjot Khabra has signed a new deal with the JSW-owned club that will see him represent the outfit for multiple seasons.

Khabra, who made his international debut for India in 2011 brought all his experience into play in the 2017-18 season of the Indian Super League that saw Bengaluru FC registering comfortable victories throughout the initial stages of the season.

However, an unfortunate rib injury sidelined Khabra for a large part of the season,causing him to miss the final against former team Chennaiyin FC. Despite this setback he has extend his stay at the club for the upcoming season and beyond, Sportskeeda has learnt.

In the 13 games that he played, Khabra was involved in nine wins and just the four losses. He also notched one assist which saw skipper Sunil Chettri net the ball against NorthEast United FC.

The dynamic defender from Punjab has been an imperative part of the BFC setup and it comes as no surprise that he has extended his contract and remains a major part of the team's defensive strategies in the foreseeable future.

The 29-year-old played a massive role in Bengaluru FC's debut campaign in the previous season and along with the likes of John Johnson, Juanan and Rahul Bheke, made up a formidable defensive lineup which certainly influenced the extension of his contract.

The talented defender, who has also played as a midfielder and a winger early on in his career, has a lot of game time under his belt, having represented East Bengal for over six seasons since 2009 until he had his first exposure in the ISL when he signed for Chennaiyin FC in the inaugural season.
