ISL 2018: Mumbai City FC keeping close tabs on Shouvik Ghosh and Raynier Fernandes
Indian Super League franchise Mumbai City FC have set their sights on two young Indian talents in the form of Raynier Fernandes and Shouvik Ghosh, as has been learned by Sportskeeda.
The Mumbai-based franchise, who had finished at the top of the ISL standings last year had a disappointing campaign this time around, managing just a seventh position finish and missing out on the playoffs. This led to them missing out on the automatic qualification spot for the Super Cup as well.
As a result, the Islanders have been quick to make their moves in the transfer market and look to build a well-balanced squad for the next season. They will look to secure the deals for signing Jamshedpur FC left-back Shouvik Ghosh and Mohun Bagan midfielder Raynier Fernandes as soon as possible.
Shouvik Ghosh, who started his career at the AIFF's Pailan Arrows project has featured for Mohun Bagan since 2013 in the I-League. He has played his previous seasons in the ISL with NorthEast United FC, Delhi Dynamos and most recently for newcomers Jamshedpur FC. The 25-year-old Ghosh made 10 appearances for the Jamshedpur side in the left-back position and impressed with his performances.
Raynier Fernandes began his career in Mumbai District Football Association's Elite Division playing for former I-League regulars Air India and even represented the state of Maharashtra in the Santosh Trophy in 2016. He was signed by Mohun Bagan last season and made his debut for the Mariners in the Calcutta Football League. After few appearances last season, Raynier soon became a regular for the Kolkata giants this season playing alongside Yuta Kinowaki and former Bengaluru FC midfielder Cameron Watson, making 17 appearances in the recently concluded I-League season.
The Mumbai City FC side continues their rebuilding of the side as they aim to secure the signatures of Shouvik Ghosh and Raynier Fernandes in addition to other Indian talents in hopes of a better season next year.
