ISL: 'Forca Goa' - FC Goa come up with a new chant ahead of the first game against Chennaiyin FC

Forca Goa – Chant for home fans ahead of FC Goa’s opening game

Panaji, 13 Oct 2014: Every four years, around the time the World Cup tournament begins, football chants and theme songs constantly rage over the radio, television and other forms of media. The whole idea behind a football anthem is that it serves as a chant meant to unite its fans and encourage the team to win.

Goan music artist Varun Carvalho and music composer Piyush Soni have been roped in to compose the chant ForÇa Goa for FC Goa. FC Goa is one of the eight teams to compete in the 2014 Hero Indian Super League (ISL) which got underway at a glittering ceremony in Kolkata on Sunday.

The catchy chant ‘Forca Goa’ will be played by Varun and his band at the opening of FC Goa’s first match scheduled on October 15, 2014 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Goa, FC Goa’s home ground.

“We’ll be singing the anthem and teaching the chant to all the spectators.” Varun Carvalho said.  “There will be drummers in all the four corners of the stadium and the crowd will be joining in the chant,” he also informed.

Giving us an insight into his composition, Varun said: “We wanted to create a very aggressive chant to go with the charged-up attitude of the team. At the same time, we wanted to keep it very Goan so the beat gives a very ethnic feel. The tune is very catchy and we are sure fans will connect with it.”

Music composer Piyush Soni added, “We have maintained an element of the local culture of Goa in the track. Though it is aggressive, it also communicates a message. There is a brass band element running through the melody because Goa’s music scene is synonymous with brass instruments. This way people can relate to it not just culturally but musically as well.”

“Forca Goa is a term which is very synonymous with football. It means, may the force be with you.” Varun added.
